The Jaguar XJR-9 is a sports-prototype race car designed by Tony Southgate and built by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) in 1988. It was developed for FIA Group C and IMSA Camel GTP racing.
How it works, in terms someone would actually use
It is a mid-mounted, longitudinally oriented, rear-wheel-drive sports-prototype race car. Its carbon composite body wraps a Jaguar 7.0-litre V12 engine. The engine is a 60-degree SOHC 24-valve unit derived from the XJS road car’s 5.3-litre V12.

It gets right the balance of high-speed stability and mechanical grip needed for Le Mans’ long straights and slow chicanes. The XJR-9LM variant proves it could be tuned specifically for one circuit’s demands.
